Sworn translation in Abidjan: French and English

Short answer

French to English is the pair we handle most often. Rate: 12,000 FCFA per page, both directions, certified by an expert accredited by the Court of Appeal of Abidjan. Standard delivery 72 hours, rush option 24 hours. Tell us the destination country when you ask for a quote, it changes the certification wording more than the language itself does.

Our office arranges sworn translations of official documents, produced and certified by experts accredited by the Court of Appeal of Abidjan. Almost everything that reaches us goes to an English-speaking destination: Canadian universities, UK visa applications, US immigration files, employers in Ghana or Nigeria, or international organisations that work in English.

Translating an official document into English is not about producing elegant prose. It is about producing a document the case officer reading it will recognise, immediately, as conforming to what they expect. That means knowing the wording each administration looks for, how a degree classification is rendered, how a date is presented, how a seal is described, and reproducing the structure of the original rather than rewriting it.

Which English? It depends on who reads the file

Canadian, British and American files do not look alike, even written in the same language. Canadian services expect an explicit certification from the translator. UK authorities require a very specific set of statements on the translation itself, confirmation that it is a true translation of the original, the date, the translator's full name, signature and contact details, and refuse otherwise perfect translations that lack them. US organisations want completeness above all, plus a signed statement of accuracy, and often route the document on to a credential evaluation body.

So the single most useful thing you can tell us at quotation stage is the destination country. It costs you nothing and saves a round of corrections.

Frequently asked questions

What is a sworn translation, exactly?

A translation accompanied by a statement of conformity signed by a translator accredited by a court, in Ivory Coast, an expert accredited by the Court of Appeal of Abidjan. The document carries their stamp, signature and accreditation number. It is that certification, not linguistic quality alone, that makes the document acceptable to a foreign administration.

Is "certified translation" the same thing?

Not always, and the difference matters. In some countries the two terms overlap; in others, "certified translation" simply means a translation with a signed accuracy statement from the translator, with no court accreditation involved. US immigration services generally accept the latter; several European administrations require the former. Ask the receiving organisation for its exact wording and send it to us, we will tell you what it means in practice here.

Do you translate from English into French as well?

Yes, both directions, at the same rate and with the same certification. We regularly handle degrees obtained in Ghana or Nigeria, contracts drafted in English, and foreign civil status records to be produced before an Ivorian administration.

How do I send my documents?

A clear photograph of each page, taken flat and in daylight, including stamps and signatures at the foot of the page, and the reverse side when it carries any wording. Send them on WhatsApp. That is enough to count the pages, quote a firm price and start the work; there is no need to travel.
